Because of its natural and cultural beauties, Nayarit is considered to be one of Mexico's most unique and hidden treasures. Although this Mexican state is relatively new behind the eyes of society, it has some of the most ancient towns and cities of the region.
This scenery trip begins north of Nayarit at the roadway 200, with a beautiful combination of humid jungles and green hills for your visual pleasure. Along the way you will also encounter farming villages that will amaze you because they still have agriculture techniques that cannot be named any other way but primitive.
The tour will heading to the capital city, Tepic, founded in the XVI century, a city with a modern style that still has the remains of colonial architecture that time itself has respected. At this point, visits will be made to the historic city of Compostela (Conquered by the ancient kingdom of Nueva Galicia), the regional anthropology museum and the temple of "El Cristo de la Misericordia".
Continuing north, you will come across the Sangaguey volcano, with its sharp needle over the crater that is visible beneath the mountains. Going on the tour reaches the "Puga" sugar factory and after a brief information tour, you will find yourself among the Huichol Community.
In "Nueva Valey", name of this native community, you shall be welcomed with a cleansing ceremony leaded by a "Marakame", which means "He who knows", this character is high ranked among the huicholes and considered guide of the shamans. Overwhelmed is how you'll feel after the "Marakame" invites you to enter his Calli-Huey (Huichol Temple) and enjoy the ceremonial dancing and music.
A moment like the one described earlier, represents a living past because the Huichol people live nowadays just as they lived thousands of years ago. These were the "Medicine Men" of the Mexica culture, a mission taken willingly because they understood what nature told them: "Heal the wounds of mother earth caused by mankind". Once this marvelous experience is concluded, you will head back to Tepic for a nice break, lunch, and for the enjoyment of services and activities before heading back to Vallarta.
This is a day full of adventures, with plenty to learn and see. ! Do NOT forget your camera because you will need to capture a lot of moments!
