Great Food...Gorgeous Viewby Becky s from USAWritten 1 month ago | Carmelita's was a wonderful dining experience. Our first visit was a couple years ago on a recommendation by our hired driver.
The food is excellent and the service is top notch. The views...AMAZING!
We make it a point to treat ourselves to Carmelita's every trip we take to PV. Last year having our son's wedding dinner there. |
Outstanding atmosphere... Unique.Rated:![]() by Kathy Smith from Seattle, WA. Written 2 months ago | I was very curious about those strange lights on the mountains that you can gaze from downtown. I asked 'till somebody pointed out: Is Las Carmelitas!
We took a cab, paid the deposit, and had a great time... the view... is really amazing. This place is perfect for people that enjoy places like Hotelito Desconocido, you know, really close to nature... luxury gourmet fancy people stay away. Friendly staff. Highly recommended... Be advised service may be a little slow. |

Wonderful SunsetsRated:![]() by Paul Boos from USA Written 5 months ago | Las Carmelitas is a must stop for dinner at sunset. The service was perfect letting us have time to talk but available when ever we needed something. This was our second trip and the food was top notch both visits. |
Pretty awesome view at nightRated:![]() by Patrick Howe from U.S.A Written 5 months ago | We (my wife, myself, and 2 friends) were just at this place 1/23/08, and were very impressed with it.We ended up eating at about nine-o'clock at night, and the food was excellent. Three of us had the special, which was 2 large mahi-mahi fillets with 6 shrimo sandwiched in between, with steamed veggies and rice. I would highly recommend asking for the special. big portions and my wife and I agreed it was the best fish we had all week. The fourthe entree was the jumbo shrimp and they were also delicious, and good portioned. The plus to this remote location is that they also have a full bar with top shelf american spirits, (if you are into that sort of thing). Oh yeah, the view isn't too bad either.the new section is not yet done, and by mexican standards, i'd say it will be done by next fall. but the old patio is still pretty awesome. get in a taxi and prepare to go up. and they only take cash. the bill was about 160.00 us with drinks and the gate refund. ENJOY! |

Spectacular view... Wish I could have stayed until sunsetby Brenda from U.S.A.Written 8 months ago | My husband and I just ate at Las Carmelitas last week (10/25/07). By recommendation of the Fodor's travel guide book on Puerto Vallarta, we decided to check it out. Funny thing is we were trying to WALK/HIKE to there. Little did we know how far up the mountain it was! After talking to a few locals about which way we needed to walk and seeing the shocked expression on their faces looking as if they thought we were loco, we decided to catch a taxi. It really wasn't that long of a ride from where we started (a few blocks up from the Sheraton), but we drove through a tunnel which didn't seem to be inviting to someone on foot. My guess is it was about 5 miles from where we started. It cost us $8 USD by taxi to get there, and it was $10 USD to get a ride back to our hotel called Los Tules. When we notified a worker at the restaurant that we were ready to head down, they phoned for a taxi.
Because the Fodor's book mentioned a fee (the book said $5 USD per person, but now it is $10 USD per person), we weren't surprised when we were stopped at the entrance gate towards the bottom of the restaurant's long private driveway. The 200 pesos was deducted from our bill. Both my husband and I enjoyed our meals. I ordered the jumbo coconut shrimp (not bad for about $22 USD) and my hubby had the pork. The portions weren't exactly the biggest, but it was enough to satisfy our appetites. Tortilla chips were NOT complimentary. Service wasn't slow at all, but we did arrive there at 3:30 p.m. which is probably a less busy time. There were 2 other parties besides us. I thought the price of my pina colada&margarita were a bit steep: $8 USD each, but they were a good size&refreshing. BTW, they do not take credit cards... Only cash is accepted. One of the waiters that served us mentioned that a new portion of the restaurant was under construction and he pointed up the hill. He invited us to check it out and directed us to a concrete path/ramp that took us to an even higher vantage point then where we ate. We were told that this new section of the restaurant would be open in about 90 days (since it was 10/25/07, I take that to mean the new restaurant would be open sometime in January 2008). If those who have been to original restaurant were in awe, wait till they see the view from where the new one is going to be located! All we can say is "WOW"!!! The floor and walls have been poured (concrete). The thatched roof looked nearly complete. There were a couple of construction workers building what looked like the kitchen area. It's going to absolutely wonderful when it's completed! My only regret is that we weren't able to stay to watch the sunset because we had a Mexican Fiesta to attend to in a different area (also fantastic). Definitely plan on staying a while to enjoy the view. Sunsets must be an awesome sight. Advanced reservations would also be a good idea. My guess is when the news gets out about this restaurant it will be very popular. Original or new... this restaurant is a MUST SEE. However, I'd have to say it's more so for the view than the food. |
Best Pacific Coast View Anywhere!Rated:![]() by Chuck Palm from U.S.A. Written 11 months ago | Yes you eat with the chickens and the dogs, but they know where to eat. This is a charming restaurant with outstanding service and an amazing view. The food is always good but is not meant to be gourmet faire. They do what they do well and the whole package is worth the horific drive to get there.I've been several times and will continue to go over and over again.Four stars for sure! |
Best view in town!Rated:![]() by Robin H. from USA Written 1 year ago | My husband and I have travelled to PV for 8 years in a row and we discovered Las Carmelitas by accident. We make the trip up to Las Carmelitas every year to watch the sunset and have drinks. It's an adventure to get to, but well worth the view. The food is average, and our service has always been good, but it's the view you go for. Make sure you are there for sunset. |
