Our Favorite Place in PV - Not Really a Hotel at All

We have visited PV every winter for 10 years. Our favorite place is Los Tules. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the total area is enormous. This is not the typical high-rise vacation hotel or resort. There are a dozen or so 4-story buildings each with about 20 appartment-like units of varying size and layout. This makes Los Tules more individual than a typical resort.

There is a mixture of privately owned condos (mostly by Mexicans). Some of the units are set aside for timeshare. And some of the units are used for temporary housing and this is where management puts folks who go to travelocity etc and reserve a room for a few days. Management advertises the hotel part, but truthfully Los Tules is NOT a hotel so this is not a proper comparison. I can see why some people who come to stay in a "hotel" for three nights may not get what they expect.

Los Tules has a much more Mexican feel than virtually any place you might find at a major sea-side resort town. This is not something artificially designed for show but reflects the genuine Mexican pedigree of the property.

There is a full-service real estate office on the grounds. This also reflects the diverse ownership of the units at Los Tules. It is possible to purchase one, two, or three bedroom appartments. There are usually several units available for sale at a given time. A property management company is available for absent owners who need to rent their property. In almost 100% of sales, the appartment is entirely remodeled, so many of the appartments have been updated.

Los Tules is close to downtown, and right across from a big shopping area. Nevertheless its a quiet, peacefull, beautiful place. There isn't a lot of night life on-site. There are serveral nice little pools great for kids and a great view of the bay and the town. The grounds are interconnected by many quiet lanes with lush tropical foliage. Around every corner is a different view.

For a long time there wasn't even a true restaurant on-site. Now the open-air Chipultepec restaurant has been set up beside the main pool. The food and service are quite good but not gourmet. I would never advise an "all inclusive" stay. Many units have a good kitchen and there are about 1000 restaurants to try in PV - and most serve alcohol.

Los Tules is a great place to LIVE or stay for an extended vacation. We don't own there but have exchanged through RCI. It can be difficult to get in because most Los Tules timeshare owners USE their time. But we always go there just to visit even if we are staying at another resort.
