John Huston came to Puerto Vallarta to direct the movie Night of the Iguana, an adaptation from the play by Tennessee Williams in 1963. During that time, John Huston not only did Huston put Vallarta on the map, but he fell in love with the area as well, and built a home for himself south of Mismaloya in Caletas. For years after filming, Huston visited or resided in the Vallarta area and continued to have strong ties with the Vallarta until his death in 1987.
Earlier this year Huston's children, Anjelica and Danny Huston gave a press conference at the Westin Regina Resort in Puerto Vallarta announcing their future plans of bringing a world caliber international film festival to Puerto Vallarta similar to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
In the meantime, the Cine-Club of Vallarta and the Puerto Vallarta Department of Culture will present an international tribute to John Huston, November 22nd-29th which will feature lectures and screenings of different Huston-directed films each night. More information and location will be reported closer to the event dates in the events section.
