La Albufera

The name refers to an area of the Spanish province of Valencia with a natural abundance that provides all the ingredients for paella; from rice to fish to seafood, which is incidentally their main dish.

You will be served personally by owners Doña Montserrat Luna and chefs Gunther Auerbach Casellas and Julian Casellas Benito, who make you feel truly at home. The dining room is small but comfortable and the convenient equipales lend a warm touch.

On the menu, you will find "fideuá', a dish similar to paella however made with pasta; very tasty. Or the Spanish potato tortilla, served: al natural, garlic, or Portobello mushroom. Another of the specialties are the tapas, offered many different ways and at reasonable prices ranging from $55 to $90 pesos. There is a full bar at reasonable prices.

The executive menu changes daily, and includes soup, a main dish, soft drink, water, beer or a glass of wine, and really looks appealing, so be sure to ask about it. The price is $99 pesos.

As an appetizer we were given the option of onion soup or gazpacho. As the days are hot, there is nothing like this fresh chilled tomato soup with a peppery flavor along with other ingredients; it is very refreshing and enjoyable.

As a main course we ordered the very fresh mahi mahi on a bed of mashed potatoes with a cheese sauce served with caramelized vegetables. We enjoyed it very much. For dessert they brought us delicious vanilla ice cream with chocolate. We accompanied our meal with a couple of glasses of house wine from Spain included in the menu.

If you like food the food of Spain, do go to Albufera where you can sample many of their specialties. If this is unfamiliar territory, follow your palate and try something new. If you cannot dine in, not to worry, they offer home delivery.
