Now, after the postponement due to the recent health scare; Puerto Vallarta will be receiving for the second consecutive year a continent-wide event. It is the qualifying rounds of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association of Football (soccer) (CONCACAF) for the World Cup of Beach Soccer Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) which will be held from April 29 to May 3 at the Agustín Flores Contreras Municipal Stadium.
The mechanism for elimination is based on a 6-team division in 2 groups formed as follows: in Group A are Mexico, El Salvador and Canada, while group B will include United States, Costa Rica and new Bahamas team.
The group-stage elimination will be June 17 to 19, from which the 2 best teams from each group will come face to face on June 20 in the semifinal stage. The 2 winners will play in the championship game June 21. The two finalists will both earn a ticket to attend the Specialty World Cup at Jumeirah Beach in Dubai, UAE, on November 16 to 22. During the 5 days of competition, all matches will start at 5:00pm, except Saturday June 20, when the match will begin at 3:00pm.
It should be noted that the current Mexican representatives of the Specialty World Cup have delivered good results in global competition, demonstrating a high level of competition and were runner up in 2007 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This year, Mexico, El Salvador and United States, which was the major disappointment of last year, are emerging as the favorites to take the world championship with 2 passes to the world championships.
