Celebrating its fifty first year, Puerto Vallarta's International Sailfish and Marlin Fishing Tournament is bigger and better than ever running from November 16th to 19th. There are several categories including Sailfish, Marlin, Tuna, Mahi Mahi, as well as other Special Prizes. All first prize winners will have their catch expertly preserved and mounted by a local taxidermist, plus trophies, gold medals and pendants, and much more.
All the action begins on Wednesday, November 16th at Hotel Velas Vallarta where entrants register and enjoy a welcome cocktail.
The following morning, at Puerto Vallarta's Main Cruise Ship Terminal (Edificio Terminal Maritima) is the Opening Ceremony at 7:00am. Incoming catch will be received at the Yacht Club 'Opequimar'. The action will continue furiously until 3:00pm Sunday the 19th. Our mariners will have time to scrub off that fishy smell in time for the Dinner Dance and Awards Ceremony to be held at the Sheraton Buganvillias starting at 6:00pm.
First prize this year in the Sailfish Category will be a world-class fishing boat with two 4-speed, 115 h.p. outboard engines. The winner will also take home a trophy, a gold medal, a certificate, a framed print of this year's promotional poster artist Ada Colorina, dinner for two at Café des Artistes, and their prize-winning catch expertly mounted by a local taxidermist. First Prize winners in other categories will receive a brand new 2007 Chevy Pickup, while second to sixth place winners will receive cash prizes of up to $10,000 USD, certificates and pendants.
Organizers from the Club de Pesca de Puerto Vallarta AC are expecting a big turn out for this fishing tournament, whose reputation has grown with every one of its fifty one years. Good luck to all fishers!
