March is full of activities for everyone, from the spring breaker looking for rowdy fun to "grown-ups" seeking tranquility and relaxation. From home tours to art walks and beach parties and foam fiestas, the hardest part is choosing what to do! Here we give you the ABC's of fun in Puerto Vallarta.

Art Walks

Puerto Vallarta has a rich and vibrant art scene, with hundreds of galleries downtown and in the romantic zone with exhibitions changing often. Two Wednesdays each month a group of galleries open from 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. for the Art Walk Cocktail Exhibitions. New exhibitions are inaugurated and most often the artists are present.

Bull Fights

Toro! Toro!Each Wednesday (in season) you can enjoy a taste of Mexican tradition at the bull fights at Las Palomas bull ring as the matadors lure the bulls to them with their red cape and glittering costumes. This is not for the feint of heart (We don't want to spoil the ending, but it's not good for the bull)!

Casa Tours

The International Friendship Club continues with their home tours on Mondays and Wednesdays. This is your opportunity to get behind the gates and inside some of the most unique and beautiful houses in Vallarta. Proceeds benefit the charitable programs of the IFC, including their cleft surgery program.

Dog Show

Animal lovers will be barking at the First Annual Dog Show on March 11 and 12 at the jai-lai courts at the Agustín Flores Stadium. Prizes will be awarded for best looking dog, ugliest mutt, dog that looks most like its owner, among others.

Equinox

Terra Noble welcomes spring on March 21.Terra Noble healing center welcomes spring with a celebration of the equinox on March 21. Quantum Leap will offer participants ten minute long mini-sessions of the treatments offered at this mountain top spa, including reflexology, acupressure, meditation, and massage.

Foam Fiesta

Suds on the dance floor at the foam party.For some good "clean fun" two night clubs host a foamy fiesta on Tuesdays. Señor Frogs and Collage suds up their dance floors and both feature open bar. Put on your flip flops and slide into some fun.

Mariachi

Hear the Story of Mariachi on March 11, 12, 19 and 26 at the Santa Barbara Theatre. Come enjoy a Mexian dinner and learn the history of this traditional Mexican music and the story behind the songs.

Museum

The Museo Rio Cuale inaugurates the Huichol art exhibit on March 17 at 7:00 p.m. The newly renovated museum features exhibits illustrating the anthropologic history of the area and is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Nikki Beach


That is not a shirt she's wearing.Clothes are out, body paint is in. While this "fashion" trend may not work for everyone, you can see models from Clue Models flaunting the latest in faux clothing at Nikki Beach on Friday evenings at 9:00 pm.



Orchestra

The Vallarta Chamber Orchestra (the first ever!) will make its debut March 19 at the Cecatur Theatre. The orchestra is made up of 13 locals, both ex-patriots and nationals. You will not want to miss this history making event.


The Palm

The sultry songs of the French legend Edith Piaf will fill The Palm on March 15, 19 and 20. Denver, Colorado's legendary performer Alex Ryder will perform the songs made famous by the "Little Sparrow" before and during the first World War.

Regatta


Spend a day at the Paradise Village Yacht Club.The sailboats take to the bay for the Banderas Bay Regatta March 12-15 at the Paradise Village Yacht Club in Nuevo Vallarta. Aviod motion sickness, watch from terra firma.



Santo des...Mind

The biggest beach fiesta Santo Des...Mind comes to the Playa Hotel Holly (the beach in front of the Holiday Inn) during Easter weekend, March 31, April 1-3 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The event hosts free rock concerts and is sponsored by Tele Hit, a Mexican music channel, and Cultura Libre, a program of the FEU (the federation of students of the University of Guadalajara).

Theatre

In addition to creative arts, Vallarta is home to an active theatre community. During March Spotlight Productions is staging Abba Cadaba-the music of Mama Mía (Sundays 8:00 pm) and Manhattan Nights (Fridays and Monday 8:00 pm) at the Santa Barbara Theatre. The spring musical "Some Enchanted Evening"-the music of Rogers and Hammerstein will be presented one weekend only March 10-12 at the Cecatur Theatre.

On Sunday nights you can watch a free performance of "Si me permiten bilar" at the Rio Cuale Cultural center, starting at 8:00 p.m.

Vroom Vroom!

The Motocross Championships will be full of action.Does Vallarta seem to slow for you? Well, we did not forget about those looking for the excitement of motocross. The Thrid Stage Regional Motorcross Championship 2005 rolls in to Vallarta on March 12 and 13.




W, X, Y and Malecón

And no matter your age, no trip to Vallarta is complete without a visit to the Malecón. The ocean side boardwalk is lined with sculptures by Mexican artists and on the Saturdays and Sundays there are musical groups performing throughout the area. You can also witness the spectacular flight of the Voladores de Papantala on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sunday. The famous Xitula Ballet will perform on Sundays in March at the Los Arcos ampitheatre.

The Malecón is full of activity night and day.Across from the Malecón you will find a wide array of restaurants (with great views on the upper level) and bars. Club 69 and Zoo Bar offer 2x1 (that's 2 for 1 in Spanish) drinks all night long. Carlos O'Brians has a thong contest on Monday and a wet t-shirt contest on Wednesday. Rock out to live music at Bebo Tero, Viejo Vallarta, or Hard Rock Café. Fell like salsa? A Cuban band takes the stage most nights of the week at La Bodeguita del Medio.
