Helpful Hints
While Puerto Vallarta is a tropical destination, the weather change throughout the year and so should your packing. Dress in layers on the day(s) you travel, so you can add or subtract for the (climate) temperature changes. If you don’t want to lug that parka on the plane and through customs, leave your heavy winter clothes with whoever will be giving you a ride to and from the airport.

Be sure to carry any essentials with you in your carry-on luggage that you do not want to risk losing in the unlikely event that the airline misplaces your suitcase. This includes a change of clothes and a bathing suit, as well as your camera, prescription medications and other necessary objects. Remember, nothing sharp and specific quantities of liquid items like shampoo or perfume may be limited or restricted for security reasons. Check with your airline to avoid losing a bottle of expensive eau de toilette.

Pack a small compact umbrella for the rainy season. June through Mid-October.

Even when it is overcast or feels cool due to a fresh breeze, the sun’s rays are still getting through so always cover up or apply sunscreen. Whatever you do, pace yourself and do not get roasted ruby red on your first day, making yourself miserable for the rest of the week. The last thing you want is to return home with a patch of  angry red peeling skin where you nose used to be.

Bring comfortable shoes; sturdy rubber soles are best for cobblestones. Remember, in the rainy season, it is best to wear shoes that can get wet, or that dry quickly.

Professional and inexpensive laundry services are available throughout Vallarta, giving you the option to pack less.

No need to bring mosquito spray. While it is available in most stores and “farmacias” at a very reasonable price, it is not usually necessary in most areas of Vallarta.
