Sports and Recreation in the Hearth of Puerto Vallarta

by Rene Ibañez |

Puerto Vallarta's main scene will witness an open water swimming competition which will be held on the beach located in front of the malecon Saturday February 25th starting at 9:00 a.m.

There will be three different distances to compete for: 1.5 kilometers, 3 kilometers and 5 kilometers, so that young and old with little or a lot of experience may participate in these competitions. The fishing market right at the beginning of the malecon and next to the Hotel Rosita will be the starting point for the competitors.

Although open water swimming is considered a more demanding sport than it's indoor equivalent, because of external factors such as changes in water temperature, the feeling of underwater ocean tides, changes in wave height, the water's salt level, wether it is in open sea or near the shore, amongst others, the intention of this event is that it should be completely recreational and promote ocean swimming amongst the people from Puerto Vallarta, those are the reasons why signing up and participating in it, are completely free. Thus, this event will take place right before the March 23rd qualifying competitions for the national olympics.
