When shopping at the main Mercado, it is expected that you bargain. Start out at about 1/2 of what you want to pay and work your way up to a price that you and the vendor feel is reasonable. Polite bargaining is fun for both parties, but can get exhausting when you shop for hours. If you get hungry, there are wonderful restaurants on the Rio Cuale for that extra bargaining energy.
