Dia de Los Muertos Cruces
November 1st, All Saints Day, November 2nd, All Souls Day.
The crosses, set up on the Rio Cuale Island are a part of the Dia de Los Muertos celebrations you'll find around Puerto Vallarta. In all of Mexico, from mid-October through the second week in November, everyone prepares to celebrate, honor, and remember the friends and family that have died. In Vallarta, shops sell figurines, flowers, wreaths, skeleton shaped breads and candies, as memorial altars are built in family homes, burial plots, and selected public areas. The altars are made with love as well with a sense of humor. It is not uncommon to see photographs, poems, candles and paintings next to bottles of tequila, cigarettes, and chocolates. |
