Cinco de Mayo is the Mexican National Holiday that honors the Mexican victory over the French army at Puebla de los Angeles in 1862.
In Mexico Cinco de May is not widely celebrated like in the United States and Canada. Cinco de Mayo is recognized, but Independence Day, September 16th is the big celebration of Mexico gaining independence from Spanish rule. |
