Perfect Spot in the Sun!Rated:![]() by Cinthia Silva from USA Written 4 months ago | My husband and I stayed at the Tropicana for 11 days at the end of Feb/March. We loved it! The location is great (right in old town), beach access from the hotel (with waiter service), clean and comfortable room, excellent assistance from the staff. What more can someone ask for? We loved it and would definitely come back again - try it! |
Oliver&The Lady - ChicagoRated:![]() by Jack from USA Written 4 months ago | Well, here we are again after our 3rd year; another great, relaxing trip at the hotel. We will return again next year - great staff, food, facilities and location. Looking forward to "Chilling Out" again in 11 months 23 days (Yikes!). |
Great location with good facilitiesRated:![]() by Linze Brockmeyer from USA Written 5 months ago | We stayed 4 nights here in Jan '07. We really loved the location in the old town close to great restaurants, art shops and the real ambiance of Puerto Vallarta. Tropicana gives you that traditional Mexico hotel feeling. The rooms are good, service is great and facilities are great. We liked the pool but found the beaches a little crowded. But afterall you are in downtown PV. We would definately stay there again! |
Great place, great location, great time!Rated:![]() by murgatroyd from canada Written 5 months ago | Definitely would stay there again. Did not like the "budget rooms" overlooking the street, but the tower on the right when facing the water was awesome huge room, clean, great! The other is probably fine, just never saw it or stayed there. Didn't rate the food high, in so far as we ate most meals on the malecon or other restaurants, and only had breakfast at the Tropicana. |
Best Beach, Friendly and QuietRated:![]() by Rion from USA Written 7 months ago | This was our 3rd trip to Puerto Vallarta and second stay at the Tropicana. First off, you should definitely stay in the Romantic Zone.
Yes, the hotels are older and smaller, but you are on a great beach and lots of restaurants, bars and shops are within walking distance. A completely different experience than staying in the Hotel Zone or Nuevo Vallarta. Hands down the Tropicana has the best beach on Playa Los Muertos. Lots of room with well spaced palapas and prompt, friendly beach service from the bar staff. Neighboring hotels have smaller more crowded beaches. The entire staff was always courteous, helpful and friendly. In fact, the people of Puerto Vallarta in general are very open and friendly. We stayed in a one of the standard rooms which are the oldest. Clean, but basic and showing their age. The balcony overlooking the pool and beach is 5 star however... fantastic! If you've traveled around Mexico, then you'll be fine with these rooms. If you want something more modern, then book a superior or junior suite. Both are very nice. We will probably book one on our next trip. We love Puerto Vallarta. Even though it's been a long-time tourist destination and has a huge expat community, it still retains so much local color and flavor that it's always fun and relaxing to visit. And since we will only stay in the Romantic Zone, the Tropicana is hard to beat. |
NICERated:![]() by Jeff from US Written 7 months ago | We stayed here a week after walking away from our reservations at another place close to downtown. We walked into EVERY resort within 1 mile either direction. Newly updated, fantastic views, great service (except 1 waiter), and we'll stay here next time.......Jeff and Jeri |
Great placeRated:![]() by Louis Hudon from Canada Written 7 months ago | Very nice place. Great service and good food. |
Good value, but could use better securityRated:![]() by Duncan Hood from Canada Written 7 months ago | The lobby is impressive, and the pool is amazing, but the hotel could use a bit more security.
We mainly enjoyed our stay, but unfortunately, someone broke into our room while we were sleeping one night and stole my wallet and camera. Other than that, I found it was good value for the money. |
Great place to stayRated:![]() by Lelio from usa Written 7 months ago | Not the fanciest, but when you're in Mexico you're not hanging in the hotel. Centrally located on Amapas, steps away from everything, plus you don't have to deal with the "average Americans" who stay at the all inclusives dining on Chilis and Applebees. Great coffee at the Coffee Cup, excellent lunches at El Pirata right on Los Muertos, nice eye candy all over. A block away from Olas Atlas, Cafe de Olla, Las Margaritas for great breakfasts, and Lucy's for beautiful and reasonably priced regional crafts/art. Service at Tropicana is first rate, and by far the BEST pool in the Old Town/Los Muertos/Olas Atlas area. Prices are great too, cheaper than renting a villa or condo. |
Stayed In Oct. 2007Rated:![]() by Astrid Art from USA Written 8 months ago | The best thing about this hotel is the cost for the location. If you don't want to spend much but be on a decent swimming beach and don't care much about the room and general appearance of the hotel, then you won't be disappointed. Howevere, the hotel is really decrepit in certain parts (cement falling from ceiling in lobby, old furniture piled up in lesser used common areas) but nice in others (the pool is decently maintained, as are the grounds). The location on the beach is good- nice swimming out front, but there is a lot of beach traffic. Our room was clean but the furniture is pretty old and overall felt shabby. Also, in my opinion security was not sufficient enough. The street area outside felt shady at night. While there were some hippish looking bars and restaraunts in the area there were many dark corners, drugs were visibly being offered and sold, we saw an older man get mugged while we ate dinner at a nearby restaraunt, yet all night long the lobby is wide open to the street- anyone can come in and as far as I could tell, there was not continuous security in the lobby entrance and when someone was there it seemed very lacsadasical. |
