The staff is genuine and extremely helpful. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The view is spectacular, and the location is perfect.

I do share the same sentiments about the food. You certainly don’t plan on going to the San Marino for the meals.

Having said that, the location is ideal as there are hundreds of local restaurants that are reasonably priced and have awesome food.

All in all, you go to the San Marino for the price, the location and the staff. However, you frequent the local bars and restaurants for everything else.

If you follow this simple guideline, you will enjoy your stay!
ps. we're going back in March 2007

My husband and I just returned from a week at the San Marino. We started at another hotel that had a horrible room with no chance of upgrade so we walked a couple blocks south and found this hotel. Our jr. suite room on the 7th floor had an amazing ocean view and balcony. The pier on Los Muertos beach is just below with all the water taxis and beach vendors, lots of locals swimming, great people viewing. The room was very spacious, clean, bath was updated, and the staff was very polite. The hotel gets busy on the weekend so I suggest going during the week. It’s two blocks from Basilio Badillo where Olas restaurant has the greatest inexpensive food. Famous Las Palapas Restaurant on the beach next door. Lots of galleries, design shops, and clothing stores nearby. Internet cafe with great coffee at Dee’s across the street. Never needed taxis for 7 days. Walk to the Malecon and downtown Rio Cuale restaurants. Superior location!
