Out of the husstle&bustle of down town PV yet only 50 pesos away by cabRated:![]() by R. Cornwell from Canada Written 2 months ago | We just got back and this was our first stay at Concha Chinas. We were there for three nights. It's about a 30 yr old hotel right on the side of a cliff facing the ocean as the pictures indicate. It is all stairs up and down so be prepared to get some exercise to get to the beach/restaurant on the lower level. We didn’t have any trouble with our room service (towels face cloths etc, we even had 4, yes 4 rolls of toilette paper in our room at one time. The room had a balcony overlooking the ocean, two double beds, overhead fan as well as an air conditioner, if you need it - we didn't, a kitchenette (sink and cook top) with a good size fridge and all the dishes etc supplied if you were into serving yourself. One guest we spoke with said he purchased 8 live lobsters from a fisherman right off the beach for $20 and his wife cooked them up in their room. I saw the fisherman and he also had fish and oysters for sale too which he brought in every day from the ocean. Let's face it; most of the hotel beds in Mexico (at least the ones we slept on) are usually "firm" to put it nicely. So if you can't sleep on anything other than a posturepedic you should probably stay home and go camping. Maybe the 5 Stars have better, we've never stayed at one. Some of the service in the lower restaurant can be slow depending on the number of customers (they don't hurry you in and out). They were very apologetic when you had to wait for your food, which from our experience was well worth the waiting. We did not investigate the upper restaurant which had entertainment at night as we were quite satisfied with our lowere level experience. In the afternoon, there was also service provided on the beach if you so desired. There was swimming/snorkeling in the ocean if the tide isn’t too rough (kids too – with a lifejacket if your the nervous type - although not really necessary). We experience both calm and rough days and you don’t really have to be too experienced to figure out whether you should go swimming or not. The staff will advise you if you ask them or are unsure. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay and would return in the future. |

ReviewRated:![]() by Crawford from USA Written 3 months ago | We were very dissatisfied with the Playa Conchas Chinas hotel. The beds were extremely unconfortable and, even though we put both matresses on one bed, we were unable to sleep. There was a strong odor of sewage in our room and water was leaking everywhere in the bathroom, especially after flushing the toilet. The refrigerator did not work properly. Everyday we had to request towels and wash cloths since they were never supplied in our room. After one week, we moved to another hotel. We strongly recommend that you not direct other clients to this hotel and believe we are entitled to, at the very least, a partial refund. We will not recommend the hotel to friends. |
One night left in PVRated:![]() by M Tuchmann from Portland,OR USA Written 4 months ago | I had one night left in town after my fellow travelers returned to Portland and I wanted a comfortable place to spend it. I had stayed nearby in a bed and breakfast that had been demolished so I walked into Hotel Playa Conchas Chinas and was welcomed warmly and given a nice room on the spot. The beach is shaded most of the morning but when the sun comes around and the tide goes out the staff will bring out a lounge for you. The restaurant is friendly and good. The pool was shady too but that would have been welcome except that it wasn't super hot this past week. You can walk to Los Muertos on a beach path although it is tricky on the road (#200). Bus and cab are inexpensive and easy to catch from here but you might decide just to stay put as you will have a fabulous view from your own room. Also had great water pressure in the shower! |
A wonderful timeRated:![]() by Jim Button from USA Written 7 months ago | Located down the coast from the city, the hotel is on the beach within a cordon of a black rock reef. The staff is first class friendly and many speak excellent English and do a great job not laughing at your high school Spanish. The rooms are clean and bug-free. The suites, some of which have private pools are spacious and open to the air with splendid views of the bay. The "Upstairs" restaurant serves a marvelous lunch and dinner and was the site of several scenes of "Night of the Iguana" (Richard Burton/Elizabeth Taylor). Dinner is accompanied by an excellent singer.
There is a restaurant at the beach witch although separate from the hotel acts like a part of it. They might have the best breakfast in town. There is also an excellent bar within it. The hordes of vendors hawking everything from food on a stick to parasailing will not be in the way of private or romantic walks on the beach in the hotel area. A good walk will take you to the more commercial beach area where you can pause for etch lunch on a stick or a sit-down restaurant. Our party had a wonderful time here and I know that you will too! The hotel is quiet but close enough by cab to the downtown clubs and sites and about 25 minutes to the airport. |

world class!Rated:![]() by monte price from Seattle WA USA Written 1 year ago | Playa Conchas Chinas was absolutely the best part of my recent week-long stay in PV. The view from my balcony was priceless, the rooms clean, comfortable and secure with ocean breezes and the surf at night. And just 2 floors down is the restaurant, "La Playita", a totally world-class palapa-style beach place with tables facing the inescapable view of Bahia Banderas. I ate most of my meals right there and have never been so pleasantly amazed by the consistent quality of service and cuisine. The hotel staff was great and always helping out, dialing phone calls for me on the pesky local phone system and tending to my numerous wake-up calls (alarm clocks are conspicuously absent here!). This place is perfectly placed, just 2.5k from the Zona Romantica (50 cents on the bus or a cab will take you for 4 dollars, and when Miguel at the reception desk rings a bell, there's one pulling up out front in about 40 seconds flat!), away from the noise and bustle of the South Side. Took the bus south to Mismaloya for 7 pesos, but never did get down to Yelapa. That'll have to be for my next visit. I'm also going snorkeling and fishing next time....the surf in front of Playa Conchas Chinas is broken by large rock outcroppings with tidepools for hours of exploration, great swimming, sun worshipping, snorkeling or kayaking! Perfect as a 'base of operations' or if you never leave the hotel. I can't imagine staying any place else on my next visit to Puerto Vallarta! |
Wonderful ExperienceRated:![]() by Marjorie LaPorte from United States Written 1 year ago | We stayed her 2 years ago for our daughters wedding and had almost the whole hotel filled with wedding guest for 5 days. It was wonderful, Salvador was gracious as were all of the cleaning, wait and service people. Our daughter planned on staying at the Westin after her wedding but after 2 nights called Salvador to see if they could accomodate them, the Westin was too big, noisy and impersonal as well as WAY too expensive. We are meeting the kids there for Christmas and bringing my 90 year old Mom with us. She is very slow on the stairs but she LOVES this place.
A fan of this Lovely Place!
4 minutes from town on the local bus too! |
