Nightmare in Hell

Yup!!! thats what I call this place. Our vacation was doomed the minute we entered this hotel. The staff was awful, not a smile out of anyone, we came all excited and as soon as we got our keys from the front office our smiles left our faces. My boyfriend and I just met six months ago and this was going to be our trip kind of our honeymoon. We did not get what we requested eventhough we were willing to pay, we were given a ridiculous amount such as pay $250 per night take it or leave it and we are brown!!! another couple who travelled with us they are white, they bought tickets from the same agent as us, requested an oceanview room too and were booked economy and they got a room for $10 extra per night. I call this total racism. When asked Sunwing Rep Karine to help us flat out told us you have to wait till Friday that is two days before our vacation ends. Disappointed and tired we went to our room and that was a walk in hell. Our towels had mold on them, there were holes in the towels. Shower stall looked like it had not been cleaned. We looked for a phone to call the reception or housekeeping, the phone was dead, we took the phone down and till the day we were leaving nobody bothered to fix the line for us. Got sick on buffet food twice, my boyfriend ordered pizza and told the reception that we have no phone in the room please make sure you have it delievered. We waited three hours, upset my boyfriend went to the front desk, the once again rude desk clerk told him "I didnt know where it had to be delivered so the pizza guy went back". Total negligence and no hospitality. My boyfriend has lived in Mazatlan for 10 years and talked greatly about mexican grace, but could not believe it and this was my first trip to Mexico and hell my first vacation after seven years. I thought that this holiday that I needed to have so much will bring me back all revived and ready for 2008 but I have come back more frustrated and stressed. Thanks Sunwing for screwing my holiday and hope just like Fiesta West went down you will decipate in thin air too. I will never recommend Sunwing to anyone.

Very disappointed.Hotel was dirty and rundown. Mould in my bed and on towels. Snack bar on the beach was closed, little/no entertainment. Christmas day - no decorations, nothing special not even Christmas dinner. This is more like a 2 star not a 3.5 star. Lots of guests very upset. Hotel has been sold. I loved it the first 2 times I stayed but it has really been neglected. Go somewhere else!

Love this place!!

If your old and want to relax or have kids and want a family vacation, please don't come here! You'll ruin my vacation. If you like partying and drinking games, sunburns and tequila volleyball, then welcome aboard.

The staff's great, the location's awesome and the food is pretty good(wicked breakfast cooked up by Antonio, nicest dude in Mexico). You can't beat the price of this place and there's tons to do. From fishing for Marlins or zip-lining, or booze-cruises, whatever you want. Be cool and tip the staff often, they'll treat you like gold in return(keep in mind, most only make 50 pesos a day).

Overall, a kick-ass place to spend the winter, and do yourself a favor and leave the parents, kids or girlfriends at home!

the best time ever

The getaway had to have been the best party place for young adults. It was my first time to puerto vallarta and my primas and I couldnt have chosen a better spot. It was not that busy, but the people we met there were incredible and most we will never forget. The staff was amazing, especially 'Pablo". As noted in other comments, you definitly get what you pay for. But if you are up for the party scene this is the place to go, close to town and all the staff will hook you up with the best parties each night. I would definitly go back again. I love the Getaway.

this place is all about the people, here is where the party is at, it was the most socialable time of my life everyone knew everyones name befor the week was up and the getaway bartenders, tourguides, activities supervisors are the most open minded people and that made this trip the most memorable and ill deffinatly be going back and the chefs i cant forget about the chefs!!!!

not to mention its so beautiful and close to a 24 hour internet cafe, a Golds Gym and downtown close to the bars.

salut!!!

i loved the Getaway

The beds where hard, the deck chairs need to be up dated. Entertainment was great, the drinks are watered down, not brand name alochol. Cheap wine too. Hotel staff is helpful. Food is the same everyday, no variety. Cheap prices for a cheap hotel. We called it the Geto!

ok people... those of you who have written bad reviews should probably stick to your regular 5 star, BORING, kids running around everywhere kinda resort!! the getaway club was a graet time if your up to meet some nice fun people and have a fantastic activities staff to provide you with lots to do IF you choose to stay there the whole time.... the good thing is you can walk to the malacon in 15 minutes if you feel the need. Ok the food got old by about day 4 but the good thing is, it's CHEAP to eat anywhere else! breakfast was always good though..and the beds were amazing!! well i have a bad lower back and like a hard bed and my back didn't hurt once while i was staying here. A coouple nights were super noisy due to the concrete large hallways but it's bearable. Overall i would say if your the kind pf person who likes to have fun without a bunch of screaming kids running around the pool, this is your place! you conservative types better stay away!

We have been at the getaway twice and will be going again, most likely the last week of February for 2008. The Getaway is not a 5star for sure. The place is getting run down, they use plastic chairs and the loungers are getting old, but guess what, if you wanna meet some great Canadians in the sun this is the place. We are a late 40's couple and always fit right in.

The staff has always been very nice and tended to us, not a complaint there. And yes the omlete guy, wow, he is great, as are all the staff, including the older gent that does the gardening. They say tips included, but trust me, you drop 5 bucks to the bartender every day, a buck or two after meals for the waiter and you will be treated like royality. On average I spent 15 to 20 dollars a day, as we tipped the room lady as well, on tips. We had a great time. When they saw us, they knew what we wanted and where always there for us.

You have to check out two eateries. Banana Catina, down in old Vallarta and the happy lobster, which is cross the street and up the hill 10 blocks or so. Wow talk about the best food you ever ate. I found the locals to be very nice, always helpful but be cautious of the really nice guy, he wants to sell you a time share. Thats a big thing there.

If you desire to ask questions or you met us there and want to contact us, our email is barryontario473@hotmail.com. Get the big room ocean side and have a blast for a week.

It is not the ritz, but it is a blast. And Casa Blakes, turn left 5 blocks and it is a great place, great canadian food and large screen tv for the sports nuts.

Happy Sunning

Barry
