Great place!Rated:![]() by Tator from USA Written 1 year ago | We stayed here last Feb. 2006. The food and drinks were great! Jerry, the entertainment guy, was awesome. We ate at all 3 restaurants, Mexico, Italian, and International. They were all good. Make sure to ask for the flaming coffee. My friends stayed down the beach at the Getaway Club. What a dump. They had to stay drunk to not notice how crappy there hotle was. We will be back on Feb 25, 2007. |
super superbRated:![]() by sarah from england Written 1 year ago | I stayed at canto del sol pv in sept 06! Too sum it up in a few words it was absolutely fantastic. There was never a dull moment. I tell a lie i missed my boyfriend. I travelled from manchester england and the flight was the worst part of the holiday 11hrs but believe me it was definately worth it. Whatever you want this hotel and resort can provide it. Wether its a relaxing hol or a party hol puerta vallarta is the place to be. the rooms are pritty basic but for the amount of time you spend in them theyve got everything you need. i would advise you not to take your own hairdryer as the hotel can provide one at the reception and they are much more powerful. the food well to be qwite honest i lived at the snack bar. i'm a very fussy eater and as nothing was labelled in the resturant i didnt know what i was eating so i played it safe according to everyone else though the food was good. the entertainment staff where great they definately work hard. pool games all day from 9 in the morn and the entertainment at night is of a good standard too. tequila volleyball not to be missed. the ballon fight is great too. i would advise anyone to go on the pub crawl with the reps its ace. you sure to get hammered. i'd say hilo is the best club. the pirate trip is great too. looking forward to going back for my 21st. anyone reading this its great. oh yeah nearly forgot the place itself is very clean. |

Canto del Solby Tori from USAWritten 1 year ago | I stayed at Canto Del Sol last Feb 2006 and the staff, the service, and the food was great. I loved the location of the hotel as well, it was close to several places. I'm going back this Feb and can't wait! I would recommend the Canto Del Sol to anyone I know. |
New Year's '07Rated:![]() by J, S&S from Canada Written 1 year ago | This was a great place to stay with my two active teenage boys (15&17) as there were enough things going on to entertain them, i.e. gym, pool, tennis&beach activities. The staff was friendly and the food was not as long on variety as many all-inclusives I've been to, but what was there was good. I liked the fact that the buffet restaurant's hours were more accommodating to a vacationer's hours; especially breakfast which went from 7-11:30 a.m.! Would definitely stay here again. |
Great Time HadRated:![]() by Candy&Joe from Edmonton, AB Canada Written 2 years ago | This is my first holiday and I am glad I chose this resort, met some awesome people especially the "Aussie" and the 2 england boys..very friendly people, great staff, meals got boring after awhile, drinks were great. Will stay here againRated:![]() by BadKittyM Written 2 years ago | I just returned last night (11/8/05) from a short but sweet mini vacation with two gal-pals. The Canto is fast and easy to get to from the airport, a quick and inexpensive taxi ride from downtown, and a heck of a lot of fun. I am not a huge fan of All-inclusives, as the food is often substandard or simply dull. If we had been able to dine for ALL meals at either of the resort's two dinner reservation-only restaurants, the Santa Maria and Venezzia, I would have been able to up the rating on food. However, since we were only able to dine there twice, I can not.
The buffet was typical, for the most part. Uninspired yet adequate, and I'm sure, perfectly fine for those who expect little other than fuel for their bodies. The breakfast omlettes were very good; dinner buffet heavy on strangely sauced seafood (octopus and mussel) "gumbos". Do not mistake my use of the word Gumbo as a recommendation - I adore actual gumbo. These were not, but of the same consistency. We skipped having dinner at the buffet after the first night.
The Santa Maria was excellent - I highly recommend using your voucher(s) here. Vouchers are given when signing into the resort, upon arrival. Dinner seating begins at 6:00. Make your reservations early, to get the time you would like - you can sign up in the main lobby from 10:00 to 1:00 each day. As is typical, 7-8:30 is the most popularly requested hours. We ate at 6:00, and had no difficulties getting that time reserved.
*Note:
There is a third reservation-only restaurant that is billed as 'continental', but they are not open in the off-season. The snack bar at poolside has very limited hours of operation as well, during low-season.
The shows put on each evening by the resort staff, in the center directly behind the Lobby Bar, range from fun and entertaining, to...well, laughable. Gameshow night is fun, as is music trivia. For your own sake, skip the Copacabana show. Daily activities are typical for an AI - scuba lessons in the pool, kayak tours, water aerobics, silly games for the poolside denizens.
The only way to get a good spot by the pool that has sun all day, (North side of pool, near towel hut) is to reserve a lounge chair EARLY - like, 7:00ish. By 8:20, there will be no open lounge chairs with full sun.
Rooms were adequate - nothing fancy. However, with as little time as one spends in-room on vacation, this matters little, if at all. Beds are comfortable and roomy, air conditioning fine, water pressure excellent. The resort tap water is purified, and I drank copious amounts of it every day with absolutely NO problem.
The beach is but a few steps from poolside - a few vendors there, but all of them perfectly polite and not a hard sell. The beach is quite nice by PV standards, where most are rocky as opposed to sandy. Water is warm - warmer than the resort pool.
The staff was a lot of fun, and very accessible. Several of them came out and partied with us at the downtown clubs. Taxi fare from the airport to the Canto, is $15 (same returning). I highly recommend springing the money, and avoiding the shared busses and courtesy vans. A taxi takes 10 minutes; the others will take at least 30 minutes to get you to the resort, as they load up and drop off travelers staying at other resorts.
Taxis from the Canto into downtown run from $4 to $6, depending how far down the Malecon you wish to go. Senor Frogs is a $6 ride; El Hilo $4. I would not return to Senor Frogs. It was mind-numbingly loud, crammed with underage er...professionals, and a distressingly high number of young local men who saw no problem with unwanted and unasked-for groping, pinching and general ickiness. Staff was barely adequate to rude. Music was unimpressive and forgettable.
El Hilo was everything Senor Frogs wished it could be - excellent, efficient staff, incredible ambiance and decor, slammin' Hip-Hop after 11:30 pm. Dance wherever you wish, at Hilo - on the window ledge overlooking the Malecon (our favorite spot), on the bar; wherever. The shooter girls were some of the most gorgeous women I've ever seen, and spicy as can be. Shots from them are 2 for $3, and NOT straight alcohol, which was appreciated. Some mixed drink.
Zoo, another popular local nightclub, was the worst of the three as far as ambiance went. Basically, it is a plain old building that has animals painted on the walls and a feeble gesture of a "cage" on the back side of the small dance floor. Clientele again heavy on professional ladies and underagers. Good music after midnight...if you like Hip-Hop.
Skip Carlos O'Brien's - I can't think of a single reason to stop by there. Most nights it was closed up by 1:00, whereas Frogs and Hilo were still bumping past 3:00.
We will definitely be staying at the Canto Del Sol again. You cannot beat the value, all things considered - location, price, accessibility, staff. Our group, along with our new Canadian pals, had one of the best Mexican vacations we've experienced. |
