We spent the first week of March 2008 at Barcelo. We read the reviews here before we went, and we can say now after our stay, that much of the positive that others have reported here about Barcelo Mismaloya, we found to be our experiences also. Very simply, it is a very nice resort in a stunningly beautiful location, and it is well run and maintained, with generally very good, and friendly, staff overall.

Do your exploring on your own. The little boats rent about 40$ an hour, horseback riding $20, and walking to the zoo is easy and short. It is 3.5 miles to the El Eden and fun to hike. The villagers are charming too and work in the hotel, pilot the boats on the beach, and guide the horse riding. We had great experiences with Gabriel and Roberto as boat guides and Pedro Lopez on horseback. The bus is only 50cents and taxi $10. The water and fish are beautiful at the arches. The hotel service was excellent, esp. if tipping extra!!The nightly entertainment and food were also wonderful.

My favorite resort in Puerto Vallarta

I have been going to this resort for the past seven years. The service has always been excellant. The price has always been good but is becoming more expensive. The facilites I would rate as excellant if the new owners would just purchase a new universal machine for the gym. the present one is as old as the hotel and is falling apart. I have to go into town to go to golds gym.$14.00 each way,but worth it. The food can be better. Location is outstanding except the rise on taxi fares makes going to town very expensive

A mixed reaction to the Barcelo

We just returned from 5 days at the Barcelo. Although the hotel was lovely and the service was excellent, we were very unhappy with the overall experience. This hotel has a major sanitation problem. As of 1/17/07, it hadn’t been resolved. Both my husband and I were sick, as were several other guests. An employee told us that the outbreak was large--no number was mentioned, and that they had not found the source of the problem. Being sick on vacation is not a good situation, the concierge did send for an effective medication, but overall, this was a "vacation from hell". I would be very leery of this hotel, and would not recommend it to anybody.

What a blast!

My husband and I went stayed there December 2005. The place is beautiful. The service was great, the pool was awesome and the room was accommodating. There wasn't much beachfront, but the pool was an awesome place to hang out. A little far from town, but it was fine for us. We would defnitely stay here again.

this hotel was a little sad

We went there in October. The staff were outstanding. Fantastic surroundings with everything you need. Never been more relaxed on vacation.

La Jolla is one of the most beautiful hotel settings I have stayed in. The mountains, the ocean, the pools and the weather were wonderful. The four of us, two sons in their twenties and my husband were comfortable in the two bedroom, two bathroom suite. Evening buffets were so so. Thanksgiving was very nicely done. We certainly got our money's worth with the all inclusive.

Loved it!

This was our 3rd visit and by far the best! Everyone was wonderful. Our only dissappointments were no more beach front area(because of the hurricane a couple of years ago)and John Houston's and Night of the Iguana were closed and are rumored to be renamed after re-modeling. Antonio(Michael Jackson), Joshua,Benjamine(And the male server that worked with Ben,his name escapes me at the momemt), The gentleman in charge of the set up and break down of the daily festivities and Conrad were just so unbelievably attentive and friendly. Our friends we went there with and the friends we made there made our birthday celebrations just that much more fun! This is a beatiful, wonderfully maintained 5 star resort. Lot to do, Puerto Vallarta is full of great places to eat, drink and shop. Us and our friends will be back in early 2007 for a major celebration!

Top on my list

I've been to P.Vallarta four times including this last time and I have to say that La Jolla is the most relaxing and quiet of all. Don't get me wrong there's plenty to do (i.e. rent jet ski's, go for a local boat ride, horse back riding on the beach or through the jungle). And it's all within walking distance. Jet ski rentals are over priced but everything else is reasonable. Hotel restaurants: good food and reasonably priced. 9.8 out of 10.
